If you are looking to buy art online, Robert Bradford offers a selection of unique pieces to purchase at this time on the internet. Robert Bradford art is among the most popular recycled art you find. At the start of his career, Bradford was a film maker and painter. His paintings were viewed in the United States, and he and his artwork returned to his home in the UK to begin sculpting. Since his large sculptures that are created from reclaimed plastic toys' creation in 2004, he has become widely known. The reclaimed media he uses for his art makes his pieces as specialty that is collected by private galleries and institutions such as Ripley's Believe It or Not.

The Toy Angel is made on a wood support and is created solely from reclaimed plastic toys, and is currently being displayed at the Ripley's Museum in Florida. Including game controllers, squirt guns, birds, stars and plastic knife blades, this colorful rendition of an angel will excite the eyes and begin the wonderment a child feels when playing with the toys.

The Power Angel of Death by Robert Bradford also sits on a wooden support, and is made of such plastic toys as airplanes and disks of all shapes and sizes. Many small and delicate pieces were used in the creation of this masterful artwork, and can be fully appreciated by any person who enjoys art in its many forms.

Dark Sniff is a bloodhound created from letters, plastic knife blades, stars, numbers, toy guns, miniature figurines and many skeletons along with a wide array of other reclaimed pieces. Bradford created this beast to be seen with his nose to the ground, searching for his owner. Tail down, haunches appearing to be ready to take action, Dark Sniff is a small peek into the mind of a man who makes something to be appreciated and loved from others refuse.

Terrierist is a small terrier breed of dog that stands awaiting a command. Made on a wood support from small dolls, dog doll pieces, a sheep, fish and many other parts, this pint sized piece of artwork is ready to take home. With eyes that look every direction for the next place to play, Terrierist would be a great addition to any collection.

If you are looking to buy art online, multiple galleries carry stock that can be purchased direct. Many artists like Robert Bradford leave the politics of sale to galleries, so they can focus solely on the art itself.

Why We Love Dress Up Girls

There are a huge number of games and activities online that we love. But easily one of the best of these are the dress up girls. A digital form of Barbie dolls, the dress up girls are fashionable and fun to play, but that is not the only reason we love them so.

Dress Up Girls Are Creative

There are only so many activities online that you can legitimately claim as creative. Dress up girls fall into this category easily. To play the games you will select a doll base that often looks a great deal like a Barbie doll and then start selecting fashions for her online. This gives you endless choices and variety about how to piece together her different looks. The fun never ends because there are truly no limits to how many different outfits you can create. Piece one together and save it. Then pull another one together and send it to a friend. Endless. Really.

Dress Up Girls Make For Good Conversation

If you and your friends are looking for something to work on together, dress up games are exactly what you need. To play together, you can actually sit down together at a computer and dress a doll or you can be at different corners of the world ready to challenge each other to a design contest. To make the dolls, you can choose a certain game and both "players" make a particular sort of outfit or design. After a set time limit, share your creation with the friend and enjoy the experience. You might discover the secret or talent of your friend in designing things like this. It is definitely an adventure.

Dress Up Girls Have Plenty of Variety

If there was ever a game with variety, dress up girls are it. The games range from dressing up babies and little girls to dressing up celebrities with literally everything in between. In a single afternoon, you can dress up elves, you can dress up fairies, you can dress up pixies, dwarfs, witches, princesses and fairy godmothers. You can also have a typical looking girl where you can practice fashion ideas that might actually work on your own clothing style and body type.

Dress Up Girls Help You Be Fashionable

The nicest thing about dress up girls is how much you can benefit from playing them in a fashion sense. To a certain extent, you can plan your wardrobe and even plan your fashions for the next seasons by playing the games. Pick a doll that looks a lot like you. Then look through all of the current, fashionable items that you can use to create a new look. Pull together outfits that you really like and you will be pleasantly surprised at how much you can do and plan and see working in this way in regard to finding out what really works for you and what does not.

Say I Do With Wedding Dress Up Games

When I was a little girl, every time a saw a bride and a groom ramping in the red carpet of the church, I can not help myself to ask if when will I ever have the man of of my life or when will I wear a white glamorous gown. I always observe that a bride looks blooming on her special day. Some people say it is because that all brides have really prepared for this occasion. They really have her beauty rest. They hired the best make up artist. They were able to choose and bought the best white gown. White beautiful gown, that fits perfectly to her body. With all great and long time preparation, I believe their never been an ugly bride. Wedding indeed is really their special moment. They are the apple of the eye. No other could turn down their beauty and poise. For in that occasion their look is outstanding and almost perfectly beautiful.

The Preparation

In Preparation I know they have undergone difficulty also. They spend a lot of time planning invitation, guest, reception, food, cakes, materials, souvenirs, dress up and a lot more. Therefore getting married is not easy. If you want to make everything memorable, you should prepare almost everything ahead of time. The success of the wedding depends on how the couple have planned and prepared everything on their wedding. If they do not have their wedding planner the two of them almost do all the work. For me even wedding planning is complicated and so hard, the couples should be happy, because through planning the two of them have gain more memorable times together as a couple. They have the chance to get to know more each others like and dislikes. Preparation is really fruitful after all. Everything that happens in life is not a waste. All that happens to us even the simple detail we never have noticed sometimes contribute to our whole being and living.

Theme and Color

In a wedding their should also be a theme and so called motif. You have to choose if you want a garden wedding, beach wedding, jungle wedding, church wedding and other options that you and your partner desire to. Every theme has a color or motif. You have to choose the color of your sponsors, materials, decoration or designs. Designs that includes also the flowers or bouquet, reception background, back draft, greeting, invitation, tables and almost all wedding materials and details. For example if you want beach wedding mostly the color of choice is natural color like, blue, green, white and yellow. The theme really sometimes is important, it really depends to the couple if what color they wanted. The Color and Theme really affect a wedding. A specific theme add color. It could make a wedding romantic, sentimental, colorful, memorable and beautiful. It also may or may not influence the whole wedding. One thing is for sure theme and color show a different taste to the ceremony and the whole matrimony.

Wedding or Matrimony

The wedding happens because of two people, truly, madly and deeply in love with each other. They make the ceremony complete. There love for each other will make the ceremony sacred. It is really good to see two people become one in this sacrament of matrimony. It is touching to hear their vow of everlasting love for each other. Their promise of being their for one another, for richer or poorer, in sickness or in health, till death they part. Wedding is the start of living happily ever after despite the problems that will come to test the lovers undying vow. Love is really great. They say there are three things that last in this world, faith, hope and love and the greatest, is love.

Wedding Dress Up Games

Online Dress Up Games have also touch the world of matrimony. They also want to give new life for little kids and teens who are dreaming of being in a white gown and get married. In online dress up games they have a lot of different wedding dress up gowns, veils, shoes, hair make over, shoes, accessories and make up. On line wedding dress up also have stories, play and theme to choose from. They have that wide variety of items in great designs. The gowns and accessories are also high in level, new and upgraded. Playing dress up is easy. In just a matter of time, you will create your own wedding doll, a beautiful bride and handsome groom ready for wedding celebration. In Dress Up Games, everything is easy. For young teens and children, through play they are able to meet their dream and imagination. Dress Up becomes a key to the door of the future. To teens and children it takes a long time before they got married and wear a gown. So dress up games help children to somehow make their dreams come true.

Barbie Dolls - Over 50 Years of History and Still Going Strong

The one thing that every little girl plays with for hours on end is a Barbie doll. Just think, that when it was first thought of Mattel did not want to manufacture it! It turns out that the decision to invest in Barbie was a wise one since it is now a globally known icon with all children.

Barbie has came a long way since it was designed in 1959 by Ruth Handler. Handler first saw the need for an adult doll that would allow girls to play with and dream of how it would be when they were adults. The only option at this time was to play with paper dolls. The first time that Handler took her product to the Mattel Corporation, that she was a co-founder of, she was turned down. The committee felt that it would not appeal to children and would end up costing them more to produce than they would possibly make a profit off. Barbie was modeled after a doll that Handler had brought from Europe, called Lillie. After which, Mattel finally agreed to back her efforts. Then later that year, Barbie was introduced to the world in New York City at the American Toy Fair.

The buyer's of the industry were not impressed with Barbie. However, the little girls went wild over the doll! Within the first year Mattel set a new sales record. It took several years for the supply of Barbie to meet with the demand of the dolls, since every little girl wanted Barbie and all her clothes and accessories.

Over the years Barbie has went through quite a few changes. Her appearance has been the cause of many complaints and even lawsuits. In 1971, Barbie's eyes were changed from the narrow, sideways look as they were designed with to give a look of allure. She was given the round, looking forward eyes that she still has today. Most notable, in 1997, Barbie was given new dimensions, since people worried that Barbie sent an unrealistic body image message to girls with her body measurements. After going through countless lawsuits against Mattel, they decided to take the measures and change Barbie's body.

The last 50 years Barbie has escalated to much more than a doll. Barbie is a trademark icon that all little girls have. There are books, games, movies and countless accessories that are all contributed to Barbie. There are dolls that are cousins and sisters to Barbie, making up the entire Barbie family, complete with a pink car and dream house. Barbie has managed to keep up with all the latest fashion trends and has inspired the imaginations of little girls all around the world. Barbie reinforced the idea that girls can grow up to be whatever they want with Barbie's of all sorts of occupations, such as veterinarian, scuba diving Barbie, or even Nascar driving Barbie.

Despite there being more and more competitors that are trying to imitate Barbie, there is still only one, true doll that can call itself Barbie.

Collectible Barbie Dolls from Mattel

Did you realize that Barbie dolls are not just the favourite toy of little girls? Mattel estimates that there are over 100,000 adult collectors of Barbie dolls. Ninety percent of these collectors are women who are, on average around the age 40, and purchase at least 20 Barbie dolls a year. Almost half of Barbie collectors each spend over $1000 a year.

Mattel in recent years has been catering to this niche market. They have produced a range of collectible Barbie dolls with the aim of encouraging collectors to increase their collections in line with their individual tastes and interests. Barbie dolls of popular TV shows and movies, celebrities and popular singers, for example, have been produced with collectors in mind.

In 2004 Mattel introduced a colour tier system to help categorize collectible Barbie dolls and help collectors to find them. The colours signify the amount of dolls produced worldwide and indicate the rarity factor of the different dolls. The colour also indicates which kind of retail store stocks the particular type of collectible doll.

There are four colours in the collectible tier system, and this article gives the characteristics of each tier.

The first tier is the Pink Label collectible dolls. There is no limit on the quantity of dolls produced with the Pink Label. Pink Label Barbies include 'The Dolls of the World' series, 'Festivals of the World', 'Model Barbie', as well as some of the 'Pop Culture' dolls. Most dolls in the Pink Label are Barbie dolls , but there are also a few of Kelly doll as well. The Pink Label packaging is distinctive; the is box trimmed in pink, and has a clear front.

The next tier is the Silver Label dolls. The packaging is similar to the Pink Label, but with the box trimmed with silver. The criteria for the Silver Label tier is that no more than 50,000 of any Silver Label doll will be produced world wide. Included in the Silver Label are the 'Wedding' series, the 'Birthday Barbies', 'Ballet Barbies' and 'I Dream of a Season' dolls. Some types of Kelly doll and Tommy doll also can be found under the Silver Label.

Following the Silver is the Gold Label collectible dolls. Gold Label dolls are produced in quantities of no more than 25,000 of each doll. The packaging is different from the previous tiers. Silver Label dolls come in a "cake box" type package with an extra see through layer to protect the doll. The box has artwork and photography on the back and lid with gold decorative trimming. Included under the Gold Label are 'Designer Fashion Model' dolls, 'Designer Bride', Vintage Repros' and 'Pin-up Girls' collectible dolls.

The top tier is the Platinum Label dolls. These dolls are produced in editions of less than 1,000, and also include one-of-a-kind-dolls that are available at special events, or are exclusive to one retail store only. An example of a Platinum Label collectible doll is the 'White Chocolate Obsession(TM) Barbie® Doll!' The doll's hair has the scent of white chocolate. Other dolls include the 'Faerie Queen', Badgley Mischka Bride Barbie, and the exclusive 'The Nurse' Barbie doll designed by Robert Best.

Collectors avidly collect these tier Label dolls, and are rewarded by the exquisite attention to details in the clothes and accessories of each specially designed Barbie. To retain the value of these dolls they should be kept in the box as new. This is unfortunate, as they need to be touched to really appreciate the intricate details of the gown and dolls features. Should dolls like this be played with? A good question and maybe a topic for another article!

Building the Father-Daughter Relationship

The increasing trend of women becoming bread winners and the shift in the way people work (telecommuting, less work-day per week, etc.) has resulted in more fathers becoming "stay-at-home-Dads." This development suddenly puts the term "parenting" on the menu of these otherwise absentee parents-the bumbling, inefficient, clueless Dads (at least, that's how the media constantly portrays us.)

I provide for my family, ergo I'm a good Dad...

It's natural human tendency to model our behavior upon what we see around us. Thus naturally, as men, we learn a lot from observing our own fathers. In the yester years, it was the father who went out to work. The roles of teacher, care-giver, nurse, and friend fell squarely on mummy's shoulder. All daddies had to do was provide the check at the end of the month.

It was also common for dads to be closer to their boys as they easily identified with them. Also, there was a belief that they needed to be there for their sons to serve as a good "role model." Who else would teach them how to kick a soccer ball properly or fix the leaking faucet? The girls? Mom can definitely see to them. After all, what do we dad's know about Barbie dolls and dress up parties.

Unfortunately, such myopic misconceptions hold till today. And if you continue down this path, before you know it, your baby girl would be all grown up, without you ever really knowing her. Don't be surprised when on her wedding day, you are hit by this sudden realisation that you didn't really have much of a relationship with the beautiful lady you're walking down the aisle with. And at that point, trust me, neither your money nor your gifts can ever compensate for the time and moments you never had with your precious princess.

Experience is the best teacher, but if you don't have it...

As if parenting itself is not overwhelming enough, having to deal with little girls who are made of "sugar and spice and everything nice," can be nothing short of daunting. Unlike mothers, who have their own past to relate to, we men find it difficult to understand what goes on inside these seemingly fragile and beautiful beings. Come to think of it, we still don't understand them several decades later, when they're wearing make-up, high heels (wink-wink) and bossing us around.

How do we relate to Mary Poppins "tea parties," vain little Barbie dolls, fussy pink ribbons, and a lot of other girlie-thingies that we don't even know how to start describing? One would wish they could be as easy as little boys-our little boys are like fish in the water with things we already like: football, tussles, baseball, bikes, basketball, rough plays, soccer, and more rough tussles.

But girls....they can be very sweet one second and, in a bat of an eyelash, they can start screaming like all hell's breaking loose. And you stand there helpless. You start soul-searching. Am I that bumbling, incompetent parent? Am I too lax? Or am I too strict and rigid. What should I be teaching them? These insecurities and our misconceptions give us more reason to limit our participation in our little girl's upbringing.

While we, fathers, could never take the place of Mom, we play an entirely different role in our little girls' lives. Studies have shown that girls whose fathers play an active role in their upbringing have a certain confidence that is lacking in those who do not have an involved father. It is believed that girls who don't have this type of father in the family are more likely to be constantly looking for male approval. These interesting studies suggest that girls who did not enjoy love and support from their fathers tend to seek out other males to replace this experience they didn't have with their fathers.

We don't have to try to learn what to teach our daughters, we just have to be there for them. And that makes all the difference in the world.

But girls are fragile like porcelain...

While it's easy to presume that our daughters are fragile like a porcelain vase, trust me, she is not. I believe this misconception is what deters most fathers from being close to their daughters. Playtime, is one of the best (if not the best) way of nurturing a close relationship with our children. We could just play enough Chinese checkers or Monopoly with our girls. The more we take them as fragile (could be translated to "weak"), the more they tend to miss out on a lot of things.

Teaching our little girls to be physically active, playfully chasing them around, play catch-even basketball or football-could inculcate in them the spirit of athleticism. Instead of making them focus on how their bodies look, cultivating love for physical activity would make them focus on what their bodies could do.

This love for active physicality is one of the most important gifts we fathers can give our daughters. We all know that boys and girls who are into sports are less prone to destructive vices like alcohol, smoking, and drugs. Girls who are more physically active start young, with their Dads playing with them.

Daughters are God's gift to Dads

Daughters are not the only ones who benefit from a positive father-daughter relationship. Notice how you tend to calm and mellow down when you are around your baby girl? As for me, nothing is lovelier than my daughter's smile. Nothing is more wonderful than hearing my little girl say to me, "I love you, Dad."

Getting the Guy - Chubby Girls Need Love Too!

Are you a few inches shorter and a few pounds heavier than you'd like to be? Do you think that means you can't catch the eye of the gorgeous guy you've had your eye on? Want to learn how to snag the man of your dreams even if you don't look like Heidi Klum? Read on.

Despite the stereotypes, men aren't interested in a thin woman with a bad attitude. Everyone wants to be attracted to the person they are with, but most men won't be willing to trade a good personality for a nice body on the girl they are with. Good looks will eventually fade; men know this. For a long-term relationship a man wants a girl who is excitement and intelligence and devotion all rolled up into one package, no matter if the package if 6 feet tall or barely scraping the five-foot marker.

So, how does the less-than-model-worth among us compete in a world of Barbie dolls?

It comes down to the fact that if you've got personality, you've got an ace in the hole that pretty, brainless girls don't have. Try this:

o Be funny, charming, interesting, and fun. Guys can't help noticing that!
o Keep in mind good-hearted girls who will finish last (and best!).
o Your personality may not be instantly noticeable, but once a man gets to know you he won't be able to resist your charms.

But wait a minute! This is all not to say that if you are a little on the chubby side that you can't be attractive, too. Not at all! You don't have to downplay your looks to make a man fall for your personality. You can be pretty AND smart AND interesting AND pleasantly plump all at the same time! To get and keep the guy, any girl - chubby or otherwise - should keep mind the following things, although they are especially important for a woman figure may not be her best asset.

You have lots of good qualities. They are worth roaring about! If you exude confidence and sparkle from the inside out, your self-assurance will be infectious! If you believe in yourself and see yourself as someone worth paying attention to, pretty soon everyone else will see it, too.

True, some people are just mean. Those men will pass over a chubby girl in favor of one who fits the mold, but don't let that get you down. Would you really want to spend time with someone whose priorities are so superficial? Probably not. The most important thing to remember is that the chubby girl CAN get the gorgeous guy if she believes she can!

The doll arrived on time and in great condition. It was just as described. It seems to be more of a collectable Barbie, but my 3 1/2 year old loves playing with her. We glued the ruby slippers on her feet, so they wouldn't get lost, and I've had to re-tie the bows on her braids, but that's all just normal wear for a Barbie. Overall, we are very pleased with the purchase.

Wizard of Oz: Dorothy Barbie Doll Feature

  • Dorothy travels along The Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City with her Yorkshire Terrier, Toto, searching for the great and powerful Wizard to help her find a way home

Very Pretty! - Katie - Chicago, IL
I purchased this Barbie for a friend's daughter's birthday as she has really been in to The Wizard of Oz. It was the only gift at her party that she wanted to open right away and that everyone wanted to see up close! Score one for me!!

cute doll - Amanda P - CHAMPAIGN, IL, US
I bought this doll for my 4 year old daughter because she loves the Wizard of Oz. Not surprisingly, she loves this Dorothy doll too. It is very cute, but I do agree with another reviewer about the shoes. They definitely won't stay on her feet with or without the socks. Other than that, it is a great purchase for Wizard of Oz fans.

Very Nice! - Tara D. Whittaker - Memphis, TN
I found this hard to find so I was really excited to purchase it. I was even more impressed when I got the doll.

Dressing Up With a Passion For Fashion

If you have a small girl or even a young teen, you'd probably heard of the Bratz. They are a group of characters that rival Mattel's Barbie in every part of the doll industry. From the dolls themselves, to other products, such as video games, TV shows, CD's and clothing, the Bratz have attracted thousands of girls all over the world. Maybe it's because girls identify more with the age and friendship that the Bratz represent. In any case, Mattel has tried, without success, to legally stop the Bratz from invading the young teens and girls market.

A doll of one of the Bratz (Cloe, Yasmin, Sasha and Jade, but I'm sure you knew them already), is a bit expensive, never mind trying to get at least the 4 main characters. An inexpensive way to play dress up with the Bratz is trying the online games about them that you can find all over the Internet. Not only they are free, but they're safe as well. No violence or sex that's inappropriate for your child. And it might allow your child to get interested in computers and learn how to use them.

In addition, virtual dolls don't get lost, broken, worn, stepped on, misplaced or stolen. And they don't have to be put away after playtime.

Free Fun with Marvelous Mya

This game has a great selection of different styles for dressing up Mya. You can also combine clothes and accessories and create your own style. Hairdos are included too.

Dressing Up Your Own Bratz Doll

This dress up game lets you change the name of your virtual doll. Some girls name their doll with their own name. Others use their friends or sisters' names. Finally, some prefer to make up games. Kids can even download some of the dolls for later use. Of course, any downloading must be supervised by parents, for both the child and your computer's safety.

Dress Up the Animal Kingdom

If kids love animals, either real or fictitious, there are games that allow playing dress up with them as well. Tigers, elephants, bears and tigers can join the fashion parade, along with deer, bunnies, raccoons, puppies and kitties. Of course, famous animals are included too, like Dumbo, Pumba, and Yogi.

Decorate your surroundings

In addition to tinkering with the dolls' clothing, you can also change the surroundings. Some games that feature cartoon characters allow you to place your virtual doll in the most common locations of the show.

That's Not All

There are other games on Internet that feature other activities different than dressing up. All of these games involve creative thinking and they develop your child's imagination and sense of style. In addition, your child can bring a friend over or call you to interact with her in order to come up with the prettiest style for the Bratz' party. With no price to pay, no violence, no sexual content, you can rest assured that your girl is having creative, safe fun.

And while you're at it, why don't you give these games a try? Even if they're aimed at younger children, there's no reason why you can't take a break from work and find what pair of shoes go well with Cloe's purse, is there?

Unique Ideas For Kids Birthday Parties

Your child's birthday is coming up and you want to plan him or her a great party, but your not sure how to go about it. You need some inspiration? How about doing a themed party? With a themed party you are only limited by your imagination as to the design and decor for the party.

First, depending on your child's current age bracket, find out what his or her favorite movie star, cartoon character or music is and start with that. Perhaps you have a little girl who is turning five years old. Does she like Barbie dolls? Or is her favorite T.V. show "Dora the Explorer"? Perhaps you can theme her party after something like that.

Or maybe you've got a teenager on your hands now and she or he is turning the big "16". You could do something like a retro themed party such as a 60's or 70's themed party with music from those years and have the guests dress in clothing styles of those decades. Maybe your teen is into the goth scene. Therefore you could theme a birthday party on an Anne Rice book such as "Interview with a Vampire" or after a T.V. show such as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

There is a recent trend towards Disco Karaoke parties. This is a type of themed party that seems to be gaining popularity with all ages. Most usually there are disco light and decorations to give the room the look of a 70's disco club and a karaoke machine for the birthday girl or boy and their guests to take turns performing various tunes from the 70's era.

Decorations may include small or large "records" pinned to the walls and tinseled streamers. You may have guests show up dressed in 70's disco fashion. The possibilities are endless!

Introduce Your Child to the Train Table

It seems like every boy loves trains. Whether its the size and speed of a train or the tracks and the sound they make, trains captivate boys and men of all ages. It is as if a love for trains is hard-wired into our DNA. Most of us got our first train set as a young boy and many still have them today as adults. They are true collector's items and are very hard to part with for sentimental reasons. Maybe we received it as a hand-me-down from our father or grandfather or it was a special birthday gift that we always cherished. Regardless, our train set is an important part of our life story and provides an anchor to our childhood.

In the past train sets were laid out on plywood and propped up on sawhorses. They took up a lot of space and weren't exactly aesthetically pleasing. Somewhere along the way an enterprising fellow - most-likely inspired by matchbox cars - scaled down the train set into smaller models that rolled along wooden tracks. The most popular of these is the Thomas the Train Table set which most of us with boys have scattered around our homes. Evolving along with the train set was the method for track layout. The train table was born.

Today's tables have many different options but at the core it is a table on four legs with a recessed tabletop for laying out tracks. With the option for adding large storage trundles under the table, this helps keep the clutter organized and hidden from view. Small details like the t-molding around the edges of the table provide durability and minimize cracks and chips in the wood. Furthermore, the curved edges and smooth lines are safer for your child and eliminate the danger of sharp corners.

Not content to just offer a train only table, many companies are now including pre-built scenery and tracks with their tables. This saves you the time of setting up the track - although I admit that is my favorite part. You can literally buy a simple kit today and have it up and running almost immediately.

I highly recommend laying out your wooden tracks the way you like it and then gluing them to the playboard surface. I was told the same thing when I purchased my son's table and I ignored the advice. Don't make the same mistake as me! You will spend an hour putting together the most awesome track layout only to be disappointed when your son destroys it in 20 seconds. Kids love to take things apart and train tracks are irresistible. So glue them down and secure it for good! You will save yourself lots of time and headaches.

I also recommend establishing a budget for trains because the Thomas line is rather expensive. The typical train costs between $15 and $20. The various scenery items will run you anywhere from $39 to $100 depending on the complexity. So you can quickly ring up a hefty bill at the train store. Make sure to explain to your child that these trains don't grow on trees!

Train tables are easy to assemble and will provide hours and hours of safe entertainment for your child.

Collecting Dolls As a Hobby

Collecting dolls or other items is a part of human nature; everyone enjoys having small things of all kinds, using them as a decoration or as a simple private collection that one can enjoy. Some people collect everything uncontrollably, while some others tend to collect only items they like for particular reasons. Collecting vintage dolls or action figures is something that is quite common and popular. There are though some rules related to this hobby.

First of all people who get involved with some kind of collection tend to focus on particular items; some prefer only vintage dolls, while some others build collections that feature items from different eras and styles. Many doll collectors own these old and traditional porcelain dolls, while others enrich their collections with Barbie dolls, or small figures from all over the world, even popular items such as a GI Joe Action Figure.

If you want to start collecting dolls, you need to establish a place to keep them. There is no reason to collect something so unique as dolls if not having them on display, thus it is important to consider a place in the house or office, where you can place them; if you do so, both you and your friends will be able to enjoy them. Planning ahead is important in this case, because it can alleviate frustrations regarding the storage and preservation of the dolls.

Avid collectors can find and buy a vast variety of dolls in collection and antique shops. In fact, depending on the particular collection, the resources could be endless: there are toy stores, retail stores, specific doll collecting shops and hobby stores. There are also numerous online retailers who can provide collectors with excellent and rare dolls, in great quality and shape. Most of them feature dolls even from the beginning of the 20th century.

The Twilight Barbie Dolls - A Review of the Edward and Bella Dolls

Twilight Barbie dolls are proving to be rather popular with fans of the Twilight novels by Stephenie Meyer and the legions off fans of the movie adaptations. The idea of movie and TV related Barbie dolls is not a new one, with the X-Files and The Lord Of The Rings having official Barbie dolls made of their famous characters, and there have been others besides those too.

Now, with the introduction of two Barbie style dolls based on the famous couple from Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn (as well as Midnight Sun, the unfinished, unpublished alternate version of the 'Twilight' novel), fans are able to add two more versions of their favourite vampire and human couple to their collections.

Collectors may wish to keep these Twilight Barbie dolls in their movie-themed packaging, but the real joy in these dolls is taking them out, posing them and enjoying them to their fullest instead of leaving them alone in their boxes. Each of the dolls comes dressed in a fabric costume closely based on the clothing send on the characters in the movies, and they look great, but some fans may wish to raise the issue of how much they look like the actors themselves.

While both the Edward Cullen and Bella Swan Barbie dolls have faces that have been modified from the regular Barbie and Ken moulds, they do not resemble the stars all that much. Thankfully, with the hair and the costumes, they look spot on, but their facial features come across as a little too stylized to look just like the actors they are based on.

That said, these dolls are sure to make any fan of the saga sparkle with glee, and they provide something a little more substantial than just action figures. The Twilight Barbie Dolls, while not perfect, are a very good idea for Twilight fans this Christmas.

Barbie Collector Silver Label - The Flintstones (Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm) Review

This is a Silver Label offering from the Barbie Collector's "Pop Culture" series. The Kelly and Tommy dolls are costumed to resemble the adorable baby duo of Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm from the long-running classic cartoon series THE FLINTSTONES.

It's always unusual to see red-headed Kelly dolls, so for the serious Kelly collectors this will be double the treat. Dressed in Pebbles' trademark pink and purple two-piece baby romper, the doll also has her hair styled into a high ponytail with a "bone" hairpiece. The Tommy doll wears Bamm-Bamm's yellow one-strap baby romper with matching hat, and also carries his wooden club.

The dolls are nicely posed standing on a fluffy blue rug, with a cardboard cut-out of their sleepy pet Dino in the background. Far too nice to de-box! A great piece for the celebrity doll crowd!

Barbie Collector Silver Label - The Flintstones (Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm) Feature

  • Barbie Collector 2008 Silver Label
  • Pop Culture Dolls Collection
  • Includes: Kelly doll, Tommy doll, Costumes, & Certificate of authenticity

Tommy as Bamm-Bamm comes with a "club" and animal print hat and shorts. The packaging is super cute, including a cutout of Dino in the background and a light blue furry rug on the floor.

Barbie Dolls - 10 Facts About Barbie Doll Collecting

Barbie dolls are beyond doubt the most popular doll ever made. Here are 10 facts about her half century career

1. Barbie will be half a century old in the year 2009. She was introduced in 1959 at the New York toy fair. Barbie #1 wore a zebra striped one piece swimsuit, high heeled, open toe, shoes and had either blonde or brunette hair.

2. Barbie was named after Barbara Handler, the daughter of Ruth handler. The Matell company, which makes Barbie dolls, was founded in 1945 by Elliot and Ruth Handler in partnership with Harold Matson. The name Matell is a combination of the names Matson and Elliot.

3. Barbie has had over 80 careers. The first was as a teenage fashion model. She has had military careers in the Marine corps, Air Force and Navy. She has been an astronaut, a lawyer a doctor and a rock star. She was a candidate for the presidency of the USA in 1992 and again a candidate in the year 2000.

4. Barbie is a global phenomenon and is sold in over 100 different nations. Total sales are about $1.5 billion dollars per year. Mattel estimates two Barbie dolls sold somewhere every second of every day.

5. Mattel is a major clothing manufacturer based on the quantity of clothing the company makes for Barbie and her friends and associates. Over 105 million yards of material have been used over the years just to make clothes for these dolls.

6. The first Barbie dolls were made in Japan. They are marked Made In Japan on the sole of the right foot. Later editions were made in Korea. These carry the copyright marks on the back of the doll.

7. Matell estimates that there are over 100, 000 adult Barbie doll collectors. The majority of these are women averaging 40 years of age. They each purchase at least 20 Barbies per annum. Over fifty percent of them spend more than $1000 per annum on their hobby.

8. Matell has made nearly one billion different fashion outfits for Barbie and her associates. They have also made more than one billion pairs of shoes.

9. Barbie has had high fashion clothes designed for her by famous designers including Versace, Gucci and Givenchy. Her military uniforms were approved by the Pentagon before going into production.

10. The first Barbie doll made in 1959 sold for $3 and about 350, 000 were sold. At the present time the market for Barbie is $1.5 billion dollars per annum.

Barbie will soon be 50 years old and she sure looks young for her age? Where will she go from here? We will have to wait and see but I wouldn't bet on her demise any time soon.

Barbie Collector Dolls Of The World Carnaval Barbie Doll Review

This doll is simply gorgeous! This is the prettiest, best-designed Barbie doll I have ever seen. Everything about her is just beautiful - she has a beautiful charming face with very pretty features and a sweet smile, and she is the only Barbie doll I've ever seen (other than All That Jazz Barbie) that has real, glued on eyelashes rather than painted on ones. She has thick curly dark brown hair with subtle, barely visible auburn highlits...also, the most beautiful hair I've ever seen on a Barbie doll. Her costume, shoes and headpiece with feathers are simply stunning and extremely well designed - beautiful bright colors, the prettiest shades od purple and pink (fuchsia), metallic accents, embroidery, lots of sequins, glitter...a truly festive, beautiful Carnaval costume, and I love that her face makeup (especially her lipstick) and her body makeup match the costume perfectly. I also love that she's not quite as skinny as other Barbie dolls, she has curves. Gorgeous, gorgeous doll! My favorite doll in my entire Barbie collection.

Barbie Our Car Buying Role Model

Growing up with three sisters, the Barbie doll fascination just really escaped me. I wanted a Ken doll, he just seemed a bit more realistic as a role model for me. My sisters worried about nail polish and when they could wear nylons, I wanted a tree house in the back yard. I am 100% all girl and love the guys but my interests were much more athletic naturally. Check out the limited production Barbie themed hot pink bug reviewed by Car and Driver recently, is this what women want? Do we think Barbie pink when it comes to our car buying decisions?

Growing up I wanted a bike, roller skates, to go back packing and loved to camp. I loved being outside , while my sisters stayed inside and played records, painted their nails, wore rollers in their hair and played house with Barbie, yuk! Okay, I admit I was a bit of a tom-boy...I loved to hang out with my Dad in the garage while he tinkered on our family car or played hide and seek in the backyard.

As it turned out two of my sisters are nurses and one is in real estate, traditional careers for women. I took the natural path to competing in male-dominated industries beginning with the world of technology and then eventually got in through the back door to the automotive industry. I love all things car and automotive related....and have been very successful competing in these male dominated and high paying fields.

Now, lets take a look at Barbie and her role model to us girls in regards to what kind of vehicle is supposed to flip our buying switch. The good news is that Barbie did love to drive and over the years had several makes and models that little girls loved to own. Did these Barbie makes and models teach us what we should buy or what kind of automotive purchase fits us?

Barbie has owned many sports car editions,( quite a few convertible editions that punctuate the sexy Barbie image), sedans, a limo, a jeep 4x4 , an SUV, a VW van, vintage cars, remote control editions and the recent electric jeep for little girls to drive on their own. There is a selection of Barbie motor homes, RV's and camping trailers, so Barbie did like to camp, ( I have a daughter and three granddaughters who love to camp with me in my RV), thank you Barbie!

There is a NASCAR themed Barbie doll but NO Barbie NASCAR race car, Hmmmm. Reflective of this race series? Don't get me up on that soap box! Barbie did hook up with a young female race car driver in an open wheel race series in 2001 Ashley Taws, driving the "Be Anything With Barbie at Wal-Mart" car decked out in an attention-grabbing pink and purple color scheme.

Barbie's tastes in her automotive purchasing has evolved since the 60s, she even rides a Harley in today's updated version, and so do I.

Although I am tall , blonde and wear a 36 XX and to some, might think I idealize the Barbie look (certainly in my younger days), however, I have never owned a pink or purple car, truck or RV. The 2006 Barbie catalog of dolls is interesting to review and these Barbie role models are what the girls of today are looking at to form their view of what they want to grow up to be like and will influence their buying decisions.

I have three granddaughters, my seven year old loves Barbie and I am sure the younger ones will all get the Barbie influence and the Barbie world part of their upcoming birthday and holiday gift wish lists. I find the 2006 Barbie doll collection a bit disturbing, a sexy maid? a nurse? a sexy bikini? a fashion statement? a bride? a sexy cowgirl? What is Barbie saying to my precious granddaughters?

What are your thoughts on Barbie as a role model for young girls, her influence ultimately on women's car buying decisions and career choices or are the Bratz dolls going to be the new influencer's?

My Kids Toys

Toys, like childhood itself, mean different things to different people. To the average European or American parent, a toy serves to keep the young amused and distracted. Now more than ever, with the belief that multiple intelligences can be stimulated in the early years, toy manufacturers are gearing their products towards those than can keep children beguiled, occupied and instructed. For instance, toys should help the child develop his motor skills, and engage him in fantasy and investigative play.

For the child, an ornate piece that to adult eyes is essentially decorative and fixed, or a mechanized object kept as a curiosity can count as a plaything. As a result, experts have classified many objects as being on the borderline between toy and decorative object, between puerile replica and collector's item. Such overlapping cannot be sidestepped nowadays, especially since toy collecting by adults in the United States and some European countries has emerged as a popular form of expertise.

Despite such borderline cases, there is wide consensus among toy historians and collectors on what truly makes a toy, a toy in the strictest sense.
